The team Veterans Over 35s are located in southern Manchester and compete in the Cheshire-based Veterans Division Top Division.

Such is the strength in depth at the club, Niasse had his first game at full-back.

"That's a bit different but then, I love running and just move inside - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"That running is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

Along with the forward's 6 scores on his first game, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in 3 games for the side, while Boyd scored 5 on his first match and Lescott, a defender by position, scored a triple in one match up front.

One opponent, 38, who features on the wing for the opposition, came up against former Latics defender Figueroa on Sunday - and had to tell his young son who Heskey was.

Figueroa has played at 2 World Cups for his country, in as well as featuring in over 200 Premier League games.

"The news was spreading like wildfire they had these ex-Premier League stars," said the player.

"I felt I was a bit starstruck playing against him to be honest.

"Also Heskey got on and he's got 60-odd England appearances.

"Our side held our own for a solid twenty mins but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"Our group really haven't stopped talking about it - I was calling my mum and brother on the way home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we are eager for the second match."
